Day 297

You know you have been at a place long enough when you can give directions to visitors of the city.  We really enjoyed our stay at Ottawa, and traveling several day’s with Mark and Jody on “Gypsea”.  They are turning around and retracing part of their journey with us to visit Quebec City, and we are continuing our adventure on the Rideau Canal.

Lock #11

We passed through 4 locks and one bridge today and decided to stay along the lock wall at Lock #14.  There are three consecutive locks here, #14, #15, and #16,  so we will be the first boat in tomorrow morning.

This is a great place for boat watching, this 1957 wooden Shepherd boat arrived at the lock and since the captain was by himself, I helped him lock through the 3 locks.

There is a manually operated swing bridge at the last lock #16.  An angled bar is inserted in a gear in the center of bridge.  The bridge attendant walks around in a circle turning the gear, which rotates the bridge.
