Hastings, ON to Scotts Mills, ON

Miles Traveled 38.2
Total Miles Traveled 5314
Day 312

Wow, 38 miles today and only one lock.  We have passed through 19 locks since entering the Trent-Severn Waterway and are not half way through all of them yet.  We pulled away from the dock early this morning to get across Rice Lake before the predicted high winds picked up this afternoon.  Rice Lake is about 20 miles long, and in some places over 2 miles wide.  We had to pass through this obstacle before entering the lake.

All of the locks that we have entered have been raising us up in elevation, over 400 feet in the first 18 locks. The area we cruised through today had a lot of marsh and swampy areas.

So far we have not been too impressed with the waterway, especially since being on the Rideau.  We have been told the picture perfect scenery, with pristine water, is only a few miles away.

We passed the Kawartha Voyageur, a 45 passenger cruise boat, I’m glad we passed in a wide channel.

We arrived on the top side of Lock #19 and decided to stay on the lock wall tonight.  The sustained wind is 25 mph as I am writing this blog, so the last thing I wanted to do this afternoon was navigate inside a marina to put our boat in a slip….or play bumper boats.
