Chambly, QC to Saint-Ours, QC

Miles Traveled 31.6
Total Miles Traveled 4825
Day 281

Fort Chambly, as we were leaving the dock this morning.  Fort Chambly was built by the French in 1711 and was the last of three forts to be built on the same site with the original purpose to protect travelers from the Indians.

This mountain was all by itself, we did not see another one all day.

I think this sign is for visiting Americans that can’t read French.

Almost every community has a church with this type of steeple.

We crossed two cable ferries today, a cable is attached to each side of the river and to the ferry, we have to wait until the ferry is at the shore so the cable is low enough in the water to pass over it.

The weather was perfect for cruising the Richelieu River.

We arrived at the Saint-Ours Lock, this will be our last lock before entering the St. Lawrence River tomorrow.

We tied our boat up to a floating dock inside the lock chamber.

After passing through the lock, we tied up to a floating dock along the lock wall for the night.  There is a park next to the lock with newly constructed cabins for rent.

Saint-Ours Dam.

The satellite image of Saint Ours Lock shows it covered in ice, when we were there it was 80 deg.
