Chesapeake City, MD Day 3

Miles Traveled 11.8
Total Miles Traveled 4166
Day 255

We moved from the Bohemia Yacht Basin Marina to the Chesapeake City mooring basin.  This anchorage puts us closer to town to visit the city, and to the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, our connection to Delaware Bay and New Jersey.

The entrance to the C & D Canal.

Anchored at Chesapeake City.

We took the dinghy to the C&D Museum and learned the history of the canal.  The C & D canal is a 14 mile long, 450 foot wide and 35 foot deep ship canal that connects the Delaware River with the Chesapeake Bay.  The canal is a working waterway with over 25,000 vessels a year making the passage; this makes the C & D Canal one of the busiest canals in the world.

After touring the museum, we took the dinghy to the city dock.  We ate lunch at the Chesapeake Inn restaurant overlooking the marina, city dock, and yacht basin.  We walked into town and visited the historic Victorian style homes, shops and galleries.  It was another cool and rainy day, but we were able to make the best of it.

This ship passed through the canal as we were walking to town.
