Day 251
We started our day with cool and overcast skies, but only a slight chance of rain. As
we headed back out on the Chesapeake Bay, we were seeing 1-2 foot waves and the
occasional 3 footers. Our comfort
level is less than 2 feet but as we headed north and passed the Potomac River,
the Bay narrows somewhat, and the waves were less of an issue. The Chesapeake Bay is over 200 miles long
from Norfolk, so we expected to have at least one rough ride before reaching
the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.
We passed the Smith Point Light at the mouth of the
Potomac River; first constructed in 1897 its white light, flashing every 10
seconds, can be seen for approximately 18 miles.
We also passed several cargo ships; we cruise on the outside
of the shipping channel when possible.
We anchored in St John Creek, north of Solomons,
Maryland. We developed a leak on our hot
water heater and took the dinghy to the local marina to purchase a pipe
fitting. We noticed a looper at one of
the marinas that we haven’t seen since Pensacola, FL so we stopped by to
visit. As we left, we spotted two other
loopers that we haven’t met yet, so we stopped and introduced ourselves and exchanged boat cards.
