Day 241
Happy Mother’s Day Moni !
Our anchorage last night was located on Camp Lejeune, a
Marine Corps Base Camp covering 246 square miles near Jacksonville, North Carolina. The anchorage area is known as Mile Hammock
Bay and can be used by recreational boaters, but the shoreline is restricted to
military personnel. There were 12 boats
anchored in the bay before nightfall, and we were the only loopers. The ICW runs through the military base property and
training exercises can limit traffic on the waterway.
Most of our cruising today was behind the barrier islands
and the ocean; a lot of local boaters were out today for the holiday and it being
a weekend.
We arrived at Morehead City Yacht Basin Marina and the dock
master directed us to our assigned dock.
The boat behind us is another looper “Pearl”; we traveled with them down part of the river system and haven’t seen them since Demopolis Alabama.
The marina has a courtesy van that they rent for $10 for
2 hour segments, so we took it to Wal-Mart and stocked up on supplies.
