Charleston, SC Day 2

Miles Traveled 0
Total Miles Traveled 3428
Day 236

I’m sitting on the boat this morning, looking out over the marina and the tall ship behind us, when I noticed a sailboat leaving the marina, ugh oh! The sailboats mast was too high to pass.  I just happened to have the camera within reach.

We spent the entire day sightseeing Charleston.

The marina gets a little rocky rolly when the big boats pass.

The Battery is a landmark defensive seawall and promenade in Charleston named for a civil-war coastal defense artillery battery site.

We can see Fort Sumter from our marina.  Fort Sumter is a sea fort in Charleston notable for two battles of the American Civil War.  The first Battle of Fort Sumter opened on April 12 1861, when Confederate artillery fired on the Union garrison; these were the first shots fired of the war.  The second battle of Fort Sumter happened on September 8, 1863 and was a failed attempt by the Union to retake the fort.
