Norfolk, VA to Deltaville, VA

Miles Traveled 56.7
Total Miles Traveled 3967
Day 249

After departing the marina this morning, we passed Red Buoy 36 which marks Mile 0 of the ICW (Intracoastal Waterway)

Between cargo ships and the Naval Station, Norfolk is a very busy place.

Naval Station Norfolk is situated in the Sewells Point area of the City of Norfolk, near the site of the battle of the Monitor and Merrimac, and is the largest naval complex in the world.  As we were passing the Naval Station, a warning to all mariners was broadcast over our VHF radio, that the Aircraft Carrier 5 was entering the port and to stay clear.

Entering the Chesapeake Bay was like going out to sea.

The water is definitely clearer than what we have experienced the last several days.

This is the Wolf Trap Lighthouse, first constructed in 1821.  Wolf Trap Shoal juts into the Chesapeake Bay from Winter Harbor, a point a few miles north of Mobjack Bay and the York River.  It got its name from the 1691 grounding of the HMS Wolf, a British naval vessel.
