Day 235
Timing, Timing, Timing, we weighed anchor at 8:15 to
arrive at Elliott Cut at slack tide, which today was 11:40, we were 25 miles
from the cut. Elliott Cut is a narrow 3
mile channel that connects the Stono River and the Ashley River on the
ICW. Both rivers empty into the Atlantic
Ocean and the tide in this area is 5 feet.
If we do not pass through the channel at slack tide, the current
flowing through the cut can exceed 4 mph. Our other timing issue was the weather, storms
were supposed to roll through this afternoon so we wanted to pass through the
cut and arrive at the Charleston Maritime Marina before the storms. We arrived at Elliott Cut at 11:30, were
secured at the dock by 12:30, and didn’t see any rain until 7.
Entrance to Elliott Cut
Charleston was founded in 1670 and is the oldest and
second–largest city of South Carolina. Charleston
has two shipping terminals which are the fourth-largest container seaport on
the East Coast.
We walked into town for dinner and found this cool restaurant
that had an awesome bar, its black walnut, cut from a single tree, and about 20
feet long.
When we came back to the boat, we saw a tall ship at the
dock behind our boat.
