Densons Island, TN to Swallow Bluff Island, TN

 September 12th, 2015

Saturday

Miles Traveled 44.9

Total Miles Traveled 153

Bad connection last night, updated this cruising up the river this morning 9-13

It was a great night to anchor out with the nice cool breeze from the northwest.  It was 60 degrees this morning with a water temperature of 80 degrees which provided a layer of steam about a foot above the surface.  As we departed Densons Island, we passed a dredging operation removing sand and gravel from the river bed.

About 5 miles later, we passed the unloading station.

We passed several nice homes located along the riverfront.

Look...........no hands!

At mile marker 130 we passed an area called Lady Finger Bluffs which was formed when the river carved a path out of the limestone, the river narrows here but the water depth is 70 feet.  This was a very scenic cruise up the river.  We passed Clifton, Tn at mile marker 158, they were having their annual Horseshoe Riverbend Festival, two WW2 fighter planes flew over but I couldn’t get a good picture.

We reached our destination today at mile marker169.3, Swallow Bluff Island, the river channel follows the west side of the island so we anchored on the east side and grilled out watching the sun paint the clouds.

We saw the house built like a lighthouse, there are some great houses on the Tennessee river probably our second best river trip

Yes, a lot of them look like they came out of a magazine, and to think they are probably just summer homes.
