Palatka, Fl to West DeLand, Fl

Miles Traveled 64.4
Total Miles Traveled 2977
Day 215

We headed south on the St. Johns River today to explore old Florida and it’s wildlife on the narrow twist and turns of the river, but first we had to cruise several miles to get across Lake George, a 5 mile wide, 10 mile long shallow lake.

As soon as we crossed the lake and entered the calm narrow river we were flooded with zillions of tiny white bugs about the size of the head of a pin.  They were hard to see unless they landed on something, which was almost everything on the boat.  After passing a no wake Manatee Zone, we picked up speed and let the wind clear them out over the next several miles.

The rest of the afternoon was spent twisting and turning up the river.  We lost count of the Osprey’s, and saw several alligators.

We arrived at our anchorage at River Forest Loop and before we could drop the anchor a huge alligator swam across in front of us.  After setting the anchor we watched two alligators work their way around us until dark, that’s when the mosquito’s forced us inside.
