Day 27

We held up at the marina for a couple of days waiting for a change in the weather.  It was sunny and warm when we returned to the Tennessee River today.  Our first encounter was the Southern Railway Bridge.  When lowered to the normal position it has only 9 feet 8 inches clearance. We called the bridge operator on channel 13 of our radio and requested passage.

We only waited about 10 minutes and the bridge started to rise.

When we passed Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, we noticed the warm water discharge coming up from the bottom of the lake.  It looks like a popular fishing spot, I wonder if the fish glow in the dark here?

We passed this power plant crane unloading a barge of coal.

It was a short cruise today; we are in the area where we will be attending the Fall Great Loop Rendezvous next week at Joe Wheeler State Park.  We plan to anchor in different locations this week, and stay at the marina next week.

We watched the International Space Station fly by this evening at our anchorage.  Yes, there’s a free app for that.  Google ISS Detector for the link.

Glow in the dark fish that's funny. The space station wasn't very bright when it flew over my house last night. Monday night, now that was awesome (-4).

I thought I saw one of those glow in the dark fish...it was my anchor light reflecting off the water...whew! The sky was really cool last night, no towns close to our anchorage. We could see the ISS really well. Tonight the satellite Iridium 62 will pass over (-8).

Did you see it? I saw a -8 on Monday night and it was pretty cool. Started real dim and then got real bright like it was about to explode and then went back to being dim and disappeared. I'm going to start watching for them from now on too.

We watched it but we had clouds here so we could only see it between the clouds : ( There is a meteor shower that started last night through tonight. It was raining here last night and we'll be in a marina tonight so we probably won't be able to watch.
