Day 358
There were 7 looper boats ready to leave Joliet this
morning, but we had to wait for a couple of barges to lock through first.
We all locked through together and had to raft up. We’re finding the Illinois locks have not
been maintained very well, most of the floating bollards are inoperable.
When we arrived at our second lock of the day, we were
informed there were two barges ahead us and it would be a two hour wait…….it
was three. We all dropped the hook out of
the channel and had lunch. When it was
our turn to lock through, we were the last boat in the lock and they had us
hold onto ropes tied to the hand rail above the lock.
One of the loopers from our group called the third lock of the day, the Marseilles Lock, and was told there was too much barge traffic and locking through today would not be possible, so we all stopped at the Spring Brook Marina near Seneca, Illinois.
