Day 366
We had a great stay at the Port of Evansville Marina, the
staff was great and it was only a short walk to Main Street for anything you
need. There is a restaurant, 2 bars, a grocery,
and a meat market all within two blocks.
We bought fresh made brats and a pound of hamburger at the meat market…..awesome. The marina has new owners, and they encourage
loopers to make the 9 mile cruise up the Kaskaskia River for a relaxing stay on
a beautiful river. Don’t get me wrong, it’s
not a five star marina, but the floating docks are in great shape, at least 12
feet of water, and less than a half a block to town. We didn’t see less than 15 feet of water all
the way to Evansville on the marked river channel.
We returned to the Kaskaskia Lock and Dam wall this
afternoon so we could get an early start in the morning on the Mississippi
River. We saw several eagles again on the way back.
The lockmaster asked if we wanted to lock through with a
barge and tug, the barges took up the lock, and the tug rafted to the last
barge. We eased in behind the tug and
tied to the opposite lock chamber wall.
When the doors opened, the tug moved out and connected to the last
barge, then we pulled out around the tug.
Most of the heavy equipment we saw Wednesday has moved to
the dam for repairs.
The cold front should move through tonight bringing
cooler temperatures and clear skies tomorrow.
For some reason we had a lot of wasps flying around the
boat after tying up to the lock wall for the night. We have a tennis racket type bug zapper and
spent the afternoon frying wasps…….yes we are easily entertained. We also saw several butterfly's too.
