Havana, IL to Florence, IL

Miles Traveled 64.2
Total Miles Traveled 6557
Day 361

We had a great time at Tall Timbers Marina, we met a lot nice people and enjoyed the live music that the marina provided.  It would have been nice to stay a few days, but with excellent weather conditions, and a good push from the high river levels, we decided to keep moving.

Tall Timbers is about 120 miles from the junction of the Illinois River and the Mississippi River and we were trying to find a place in the middle to anchor.  Bob, the owner of Tall Timbers stopped by our boat for a visit, and told us of a popular anchorage behind Big Blue Island.  Normally the depth is too shallow for our boat, but with the high water levels this would be the perfect spot.

“Le Marie Sophie” was staying close to our marina yesterday and pulled in behind us as we were leaving Havana.  They called us on the radio and we told them about the anchorage so they followed us to Big Blue Island.

La Grange Lock is the last lock on the Illinois River, and with the high water level, we passed over the wicket dam and avoided another lock delay.

We passed two more eagles as we cruised the river, I don’t think we saw one eagle while in Canada.

A barge passed through this railroad bridge just before we arrived.  The bridge tender was starting to lower it and I asked if he could keep it open for us.  The chart indicated we had room at 19 feet, but he said he would keep it open until we passed.
