Day 309
Entering the Trent-Severn Waterway.
We arrived at the first lock just as they were draining
the chamber; our original plan was to pass through 12 locks today.
Manually opening the lock doors after raising us 27 feet.
This guy has the right idea.
The wind was building all day which made it
difficult to grab the cables in the lock.
The other problem we had was when locking up, we were required to tie to
the starboard side because of turbulence on the lock port wall. We always tie to the port side because when I
put the boat in reverse, it stops the boat from moving forward and pulls the
stern of the boat to port. When tying to the starboard side, when I reverse the
boat the stern swings out into the middle of the lock and we can’t grab the
cable. At one point today, we were
almost sideways in the lock. How embarrassing!
The clouds were gradually building all day and before
reaching lock #8, it was apparent we were not going to make it to Lock 12.
We tied up to the Lock #8 lower wall and prepared for the storm. As luck would have it, all we had was wind and a few sprinkles, but decided to stay for the night.
We met a new looper "LeryLynn" when we were at Kingston, then met them again at Trenton. We both left Trenton this morning and have been traveling through the locks together today.
