Day 307
Today was a windy day on the water; we had 18 mph
sustained winds most of the afternoon. The
good news was the waves were either behind us, or at an angle in front of us,
most of the day. Waves that are abeam
(hitting us on the side) really make us rock and roll. The bad news was entering the marina and
getting into a slip under the windy conditions.
This is not my favorite time to be at the helm, but all went well.
Possible severe weather is forecast for tomorrow, and we
could see the front moving closer from the south at our slip at Trent Port
Marina. We will probably stay here
tomorrow and catch up on a few maintenance items, go to the grocery store, and
laundry.
We met another looper when we arrived, located in the
slip next to us “2 ∞ “ (infinity).
We introduced ourselves and gave Jeff a boat card. Jeff and his brother Bern started the loop
from Maryland. He said he had special
boat cards, went back to his boat, and came back with a piece of wood with a
hand painted sailboat on it. It has a
magnet on the back to stick on the microwave or the fridge. What a cool idea!
The Trent-Severn Waterway starts at Trenton, ON and is made up of 44 locks. The first 35 locks will elevate us from 243 feet above sea level at Trenton, to 840 feet above sea level at Balsam Lake. From this point we will gradually drop in the remaining locks to 576 feet above sea level at Port Severn entering the Georgian Bay.
