Day 305
We were off to an early start this morning, but we had to
lock through 7 locks and have two bridges open before arriving at Kingston, Ontario. We traveled about 6 miles before reaching the
Brass Point Swing Bridge. The bridge is
operated by Parks Canada and does not open until 9 a.m., we arrived at 8:45 so
I guess we should have had another cup of coffee and tea before leaving.
The scenery today was awesome, and the smell of pine as
we navigated through the narrow channels of the canal made you want to take a
deep breath. I wish I had a dollar for
every time we said “This is really cool”.
We had to wait at Lock #43 and met a couple from Florida
on “School’s Out”, I’ll bet you can guess what they did before retirement.
We had a new experience when going through consecutive locks
47, 48, and 49; we had to drop down in lock 47 to get under a railroad bridge
that had a freight train crossing it. Moni
had a hard time trying to hold onto the line while holding her ears.
We arrived at the LaSalle Causeway Bridge about 2:15 and
it only opens on the hour, so we pulled into the Kingston Marina to pump out
our holding tank. The marina where we
are staying is on the other side of the bridge and does not offer the pump out
service. We arrived back at the bridge
about 15 minutes before opening.
We arrived at the Confederation Basin Marina on the waterfront at Kingston, and pulled into a slip next to “School’s Out”. The four of us walked into town visiting a few shops and seeing the town before stopping at a popular restaurant for pizza.
