Day 56
Although it was 65 degrees we had heavy fog this morning. This was a really cool place, tucked in a narrow creek off of the main river channel. We didn’t see any gators or snakes, but is sure looked like a good place to see something. A few of the boats left in the fog, but we waited until it started to lift.
This section of the waterway is just the opposite of the
northern section. We find ourselves zigzagging
and backtracking. This is an example
from our chart plotter zoomed out to show the twist and turns of the
river. Are we there yet?
We had three possible places to stop today before going
through the last lock. The first two
were anchorages, but we found them too shallow to enter. Our last choice was Bobby’s Fish Camp which
is a 100 foot dock facing the river and a restaurant. This dock is only 2 miles from the
Coffeeville Lock and Dam. After locking
through this lock we will be near sea level and start to experience brackish
tidal waters.
We decided to stay at Bobby’s Fish Camp tonight, and lock
through tomorrow. The dock was full, but
the boats that were tied to the dock offered to let us raft up to them for the
night. After securing the boats, we
went to Bobby’s for a great catfish dinner.
Looks like one of the boats have been here for awhile?
