Day 32

I haven’t updated the blog for a few days, so I thought I would bring it up to date.  We left our anchorage at Goldfield Branch Friday morning and traveled 3 ½ miles to Joe Wheeler State Park, close to Rogersville, AL.  The forecast for Friday afternoon indicated a cold front moving through with wind and rain so we decided to get a slip at the state park, top off our water tanks, charge our batteries, and do our laundry.

We had a great anchorage at Goldfield Branch and used the dinghy quite a bit exploring the area and fishing.  We see several of these Cormorants drying their wings in this part of the Tennessee River system.  They are excellent swimmers and capture their food during underwater dives which may last up to a minute.

Yes, someone else dosen't seem to have a problem catching fish.

When we arrived at the park we were met by friends we met at Chattanooga, Phil and Jeanne, they snapped this picture of us from their dinghy.  This will be a busy place next week at America’s Great Loop Cruisers Association (ACLCA)  Fall Rendezvous.

We left the park around noon Saturday and anchored in Second Creek, a beautiful anchorage and protection from the north wind.  As we entered the cove, we passed a houseboat tied to shore.  Later in the afternoon, we were fishing in the dinghy behind our boat and Pat paddled by in her Kayak, she was from the houseboat, and invited us over to their boat later that evening.  About 30 minutes later, another dinghy entered our cove and found that Ted was anchored down from our cove in his catamaran.  Scott and Pat from the houseboat invited Ted, Moni and I to the shore behind their houseboat for a campfire last night.  We had a great visit with new friends.  Scott and Pat are from the area and keep their boat at Joe Wheeler marina.  Ted is from Chicago and is planning to attend the rendezvous next week.

Devin would like to know the name of the shuttle that you saw at the museum? Shakoda would like to know what type of fish did Moni catch? Nicholas would like to know if you will be fishing in Miami? Hunter would like to know if you will be going by the keys.

Hi Devin,
The space shuttle on display at the Space & Rocket Center is the Shuttle Orbiter Pathfinder. Pathfinder is a test simulator made of steel and wood, constructed by NASA in 1977.

Hi Shakoda,
The fish that Moni caught in the picture is a Catfish. Moni also catches Bass and Bluegill and catches more fish than Rick most of the time….okay, all of the time.

Hi Nicholas,
We will be fishing in Florida but I’m not sure about Miami, if we can find a nice quiet place to anchor our boat there, we’ll probably give it a try.

Hi Hunter,
Yes, we are planning to stay in the Keys from the end of January to the middle of February.
