Day 266
What a difference 50 miles makes, the scenery on our
cruise up the Hudson River today was awesome.
The view of West Point from the Hudson River.
The view of the Culinary Institute of America from the
Hudson River.
Bannerman’s Castle is an abandoned military surplus
warehouse, located on Pollopel Island, about 50 miles north of New York
City. Some say the name of the island
comes from a folk tale about a girl named Polly Pell having been stranded on
the island.
Esopus Meadows Lighthouse stands on the west side of the
Hudson River channel, on a granite foundation.
The current lighthouse was completed in 1871 and is the last wooden
lighthouse in existence on the Hudson, and the only Hudson lighthouse with a
clapboard exterior.
Nice house......
This sailboat almost went over…….twice.
We didn’t see any crab pots today, but did see random
logs floating in the river. It was hard
to keep our eyes on the water with the awesome shoreline.
The Rondout Light is a lighthouse on the west side of the
Hudson River at Kingston, New York. The
current lighthouse was built in 1915, replacing the earlier 1867 lighthouse. It
is really cool to round a bend in the river and see these old lighthouses off
in the distance. This particular
lighthouse was a navigational aid for us as we turned into Rondout Creek for
our anchorage today.
