Day 123
The delay that caused us to stop early at Thornton Key
was a blessing in disguise. We started
out Saturday morning with a 15% chance of rain, but that turned into a major
line of thunderstorms racing across the Gulf.
Severe weather was reported North and South of us and a water spout was
reported in Tampa Bay. The wind came
from the SW and we were anchored on the NE side of the island so rain was the
only issue we had. What a great time to
wash the salt from the boat!
Today we only traveled a few miles to Cape Haze. The front moving through is producing 18-20
mph winds so we found this well protected anchorage early this morning and
decided to spend the day sightseeing.
The dolphins were really active today.
I thought this one was going to jump up on our swim platform.
We discovered that we could take the dinghy on a canal all the way
around Cape Haze, across the ICW and go to Don Pedro State Park, located on the
Gulf of Mexico. This is the canal around
Cape Haze.
The entrance into the park is very narrow and is bordered
by thick mangroves.
We just knew we would see a Manatee or two, but no luck.
We did see a few birds.
And this crab when we walked the beach.
I didn't think he was alive until I stuck my toe at him. Did you every wonder how they keep sand from getting into their eyes?
